AUS-10produced atTakefu Special Steel Corporation’ssteel mills based inFukui, Japan, a vanadium-rich0.3%(V), molybdenum-rich1.20%(Mo) and cobalt-rich1.5%(Co) high-carbon stainless steel. The balanced combination of high carbon content of1.05%(C) and chromium content of15.50%(Cr) makes a stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance, high hardness (hardened to around 60 HRC) and the ability to hold an edge for a long time. As a result, knives made fromAUS-10are easy to sharpen, delivering a razor-sharp edge with exceptional performance.

Vacuum & Cryogenic- theAUS-10steel undergoes a specialized heat treatment process involving two key stages.Vacuum Heat Treatment:the steel is heated in a vacuum environment, minimizing oxidation and ensuring more uniform metal properties. This process enhances the strength and structural integrity of the steel.Cryogenic Treatment:after heating, the steel is rapidly cooled to extremely low temperatures, often below -100°C (-148°F). This transformation converts residual austenite into martensite, significantly increasing hardness, wear resistance, and overall durability. These advanced treatments enableAUS-10steel to deliver exceptional performance, offering both razor-sharp edge retention and remarkable blade longevity.

Blade – Sheepfoot type, single-edged. Finished using the Darkwashed method, which gives the blade a dark look with a slightly worn, aged finish and effectively conceals scratches from use. The long, slender cutting edge converges towards the needle-sharp tip of the knife. The thickness of the blade provides high strength while the high, flat grind guarantees excellent cutting properties. Ceramic ball bearings are responsible for the smooth and smooth operation of the blade advancement mechanism.
