Offering the same features as the larger models, the Manticore S DE Black Aluminum / Ultem, Black DLC is the smallest of the Manticore line. The blade, with a Double Action (D/A) mechanism, can be unfolded and folded with one hand. The smooth action of the knife starts with a stepped slide under the thumb, allowing the blade to be extended with confidence. Elegant flowing lines and jimping along the length of the handle add depth to the smooth body. The Handle is complemented by a hardened steel glass nailer.
CPM MagnaCut powdered stainless steel manufactured using the Crucible® Particle Metallurgy (CPM) process hardened to 60.5-62.5 HRC. The high content of vanadium 4.0% (V), molybdenum 2.0% (Mo) and niobium 2.0% (Nb) guarantees accuracy and purity unmatched by more 'conventional’ steels. Designed and developed specifically for blade production by Larrin Thomas, it meets all the requirements of knife enthusiasts. With CPM MagnaCut has succeeded in creating a steel that combines the unique properties of knife steels like no other. The result is a blade material that offers an extraordinary balance of wear resistance, strength and corrosion resistance. There is currently no other steel on the world market that offers a comparable combination of excellent properties. This unique steel is produced at Crucible® Industries’ US steel mills.
DLC(DiamondLikeCarbon)coatings combining extreme properties: low coefficient of friction, high hardness and corrosion resistance. DLC coatings are the perfect solution wherever wear resistance and good sliding properties are required.
Blade – typeDE(DoubleEdge) sharpened on both sides, with one blade Full Serrated and the other Plain. The durability of the surface has been increased with a black matt nano-composite DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating. The blade is derived with a high flat grind (Flat Grind) for excellent cutting properties. As a result, the knife has excellent piercing properties while maintaining its strength. The mechanism of extending / retracting the blade by means of a slider in a characteristic step, requiring for safety the application of a specific force to overcome the resistance of the spring. The opening method ensures trouble-free opening for both right and left-handed people.
ULTEM™ – a plastic belonging to the Polyethermoids family or simply PEI. This material is primarily characterised by its high mechanical and impact strength with a very high strength-to-weight ratio. It is also characterised by a high thermal resistance (180⁰C) and a high chemical resistance to all types of solvents (synthetic and natural), lubricants and other chemicals. Add to this the total insensitivity to atmospheric conditions, and you have the ideal material for knife handles.
Handle – made on CNC milling machines with perfect precision, from black DLC-coated 6061-T6 aluminium. Perfectly fitting liners made of the innovative Ultem™ material. The same material is used for the opening and closing slide of the knife. Handle texture ensures that the knife does not slip in the hand during use. There are notches (jimping) on the back and bottom of the handle for a more secure grip. The slim design allows the knife to be tucked into any pocket. A solid two-position (right/left) deep carry clip allows the knife to be carried in a tip-down position. The Handle is finished with a glass breaker.
