The SpyOpera, designed by Italian custom knife maker Massimo Salice Sanna, known as „MAX” the original Opera knife from lionSTEEL, has become one of the company’s best-selling models. The unique combination of style and functionality appealed to a wide range of knife users, including the owners of Spyderco. Working with LionSteel, the design was modified to include a round SpyderHole and a deep pocket wire clip. With the addition of Spyderco’s signature features, the SpyOpera folder was born.
M390 – martensitic high-performance chrome steel produced by powder metallurgy. Due to the alloy concept, it has extremely high wear resistance and high corrosion resistance. Due to its high wear resistance, it adequately maintains the shape of the edge, so the blade stays sharp for a very long time (requires minimal maintenance). The steel has a high chromium content of 20.0% (Cr) doped with 1.9% carbon (C), vanadium 4.0% (V), hardened between 59-61 HRC. Another of its advantages is its resistance to „wire” formation during sharpening. This super steel is comparable to Carpenter’s CPM 20CV or CTS-204P steels. Manufactured by Böhler Edelstahl in Kapfenberg, Austria.
Blade – slim and sharp Drop Point with smooth Plain blade finished in elegant Satin method. Flat Grind gives excellent cutting edge geometry and extreme cutting performance. Enlarged 14mm SpyderHole cutout (Spyderco patent) for ambidextrous thumb opening. The top on the back creates a comfortable support for the thumb when working. The whole thing is locked with a simple and secure back lock.
Handle – made of durable Micarta (pressure-pressed canvas with synthetic resin) and screwed to the titanium skeleton of the knife. The titanium backspacer provides a solid structure for the Back Lock mechanism. Wire clip with 2-way (top, right/left) 2-way clip positions. Enlarged cord opening in the backspacer.
